Venue
The Mobile Mapping School, the day before the conference, will be in the Botanical Garden [Map].
The MMT conference will be held in the heart of the city of Padua, at S. Gaetano Cultural Center [Map].
The city of Padua is well connected by taxi, bus and train to the Venice airport (35 km), providing efficient access to most important air traffic nodes in Italy (Rome, Milan) and Europe (Paris, Berlin, London, Frankfurt, Madrid, etc.).
The venue offers convenient access to the main artistic and historical seightseeings of Padua, like the world famous St. Anthony Basilica (13th –14th century), the Scrovegni Chapel (early 14th century), hosting precious frescoes by Giotto, Palazzo della Ragione (13th -15th century), the Anatomic Theatre (fully on wood, built in 1594) and the oldest Botanic Garden in Europe (1545). Hotels are also located within walking distance from conference site.
Tours to artistically interesting landmarks: Palazzo del Bo’ (e.g. Anatomic Theatre, Aula Magna and Galileo’s chair), Verona, Venice and the Venetian Villas, along the Brenta river, can be organized, on request, through a local tourist agency.
The University of Padua, host of the Symposium, was founded in 1222. It is the 2nd oldest University in Europe, one of the most ancient in the world, ranking with Paris, Oxford and Cambridge. The University is world famous for its schools of Medicine (anatomy), Law, Mathematics and Physics. Nicolaus Copernicus was among the scholars of the University and Galileo Galilei taught here from 1592 to 1610. The University of Padua boasts even the first graduated woman in the world, who achieved her degree in philosophy in 1678 (Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia).
